About

Kafka.id builds software and runs the servers under it

We are a software and infrastructure consultancy. We plan systems with the people who will use them, build them, and keep them running afterwards. Our own products run on infrastructure we operate, so our advice comes from work we do every day.

How we work

  1. 1

    Listen before we build

The people who use a system know where the work gets stuck. We talk to them first and write down what we heard, so the plan starts from the real problem.

  2. 2

    Measure, then decide

Speed, cost and risk are numbers. We measure them before we recommend anything, and again after the work, so you can see what changed.

  3. 3

    Security from the first line

Access by role, encrypted secrets, patched servers and tested backups go in while we build, from the first day.

  4. 4

    Write it down

Every system we build comes with documentation your team can use, so you never have to wait for us to change something.

  5. 5

Size for the load you have

We size servers for real use with room to grow, and pick tools that are cheap to run. A bigger bill does not make a system safer or faster.

What we run ourselves

We build and run three products of our own: Tivali, Agoraboard and GoTerm. We operate their servers, databases and backups, and pay their hosting bills, so the advice we give on architecture, security and hosting is advice we follow.

Tools we know well

We pick tools for your team and your load. These are the ones we use every day:

  • Go
  • TypeScript
  • Next.js
  • React
  • PostgreSQL
  • Redis
  • S3-compatible storage
  • nginx
  • Linux
  • systemd
  • Cloudflare

About the name

Kafka.id is not related to Apache Kafka, the open-source streaming software from the Apache Software Foundation. We are a consultancy that happens to share the word.
